Don’t Let 2020’s Uncertainty Hinder Your 2021 Goals

If there’s anything we learned from 2020, it’s that things may not turn out as planned. After one unexpected cancellation led to the next, it became a little harder to make plans and actually trust that they would come to fruition. We experienced serious cancellation fatigue last year, and it may make you wonder – does it even make sense to make big plans, goals or resolutions for 2021? The answer is yes, it still makes sense! Don’t let last year’s uncertainty prevent you from setting real goals and achieving them in 2021.

It’s possible that your goals may look slightly different this year – traveling more or finally seeing your favorite band in concert may not be your go-to resolutions. However, there are still countless ways that you could grow this year.

A recent New York Times article about New Year’s resolutions stated, “experts say that in 2021 — or any year, really — writing out one or two specific, small and attainable goals can help develop confidence and a sense of pride, improving your well-being.”

Instead of thinking big… consider thinking small. There’s nothing wrong with high level thinking, but most of us are probably familiar with coming up with too many resolutions and then not acting on any of them. What are one or two tangible, specific goals that you can pursue in 2021?

The New York Times article went on to say, “Research shows that people are more likely to pursue their goals during times that feel like new beginnings in their lives, Dr. Milkman said. Examples might include Mondays, birthdays, the first of the month or other milestones like starting a new job or moving to a different state.”

Allow the new year to be your milestone, and see what you can accomplish in 2021!
