Smart People: Bryn Mooth on Midlife Career Changes

Here’s some food for thought: Is your passion just your hobby, or could it also be your livelihood?

That question led Bryn Mooth, former editor at HOW magazine, to join a growing trend of midlife professionals who slough their jobs and embark on new careers.’ Mooth got her start with HOW as an assistant editor after graduating from Indiana University with a degree in English and journalism.’ Twenty years later, Mooth, then editor-in-chief of the design magazine, found that her work left her satisfied, but not satiated.’ Her craving for creativity inspired her to find an outlet that would combine her lifelong loves: food and writing. In July 2010, she created a blog,‘an exploration of Midwestern cooking and eating that is clever, refreshing, and as organic as the food it features.

Goetze’s Caramel Creams are one of the’greatest candies in the world. The old-school cellophane wrapper makes that crinkly noise upon opening. And, what could be yummier than the soft and chewy caramel that encircles the sweet and silky white center.’Goetze’s has’been making this goodness since 1895 in the USA and pretty much haven’t changed a thing. There’s something to be said for that.

Admit it.’ You did a double take at the guy in front of you for coffee in February, thinking maybe, just maybe, it was George Clooney.’ And okay, from time to time, you’ll sit and watch the full 60 minutes of The Real Police Women of Cincinnati, trying to identify exactly where the scene’s crime is going down.’ And, whether you’ve seen an episode or not, it’s pretty cool that Harry’s Law is set in our Queen City.
